What happens in our cities is crucial to the sustainable development agenda, and education is vital in achieving a shift to sustainable and inclusive urban development. The teaching materials presented in this guide, developed by the SEiSMiC project, are therefore designed to help secondary-school teachers present Europe's main urban challenges and engage their students in the quest for solutions. The materials are ideal for use with students between the ages of 16 and 18 and address sustainable food supply; energy efficiency; green transport; the ageing society; climate change; urban space; and social exclusion. Each challenge features fun, multidisciplinary classroom activities complete with instructions, ideas for student-led initiatives, optional additional assignments and resources for further exploration. The emphasis is on group work and cooperative learning.
